Two questions have been bugging me:

- are umpire’s announcements in major tennis matches always in English*, even in countries like France that are protective of their national language?
I had strange dreams of "love" being translated to "l’amour" …

- in the post-match interviews with the winners, is the UK custom for the winner to praise the loser practised in countries where self-deprecation is regarded as a weakness?
I had equally strange dreams of a US Open winner remarking that ‘I won because I was best / they lost because they played badly

* at least the pseudo-English of 'deuce', 'love' and so on, which probably come from French anyway
