Re: Will Everton be relegated?
The big downside is the sadistic delight that will be relished by Liverpool fans. So I'm ambivalent.

I'm not so sure Liverpool fans (at least those from the city) would actually want Everton to be relegated - it would be interesting to know. That game last night was the definitive "6-pointer" - Everton looking like they would have a seven point cushion for a while and ending up just one point ahead. I don't have a preference about who goes down, but it's kept things interesting...

Why.... it's an easy 6 points for them plus gloating rights

Actually, I feel sorry for them. It's a proper football club with proper fans and a proper old-style stadium that just happens to have utterly clueless owners who have bought very badly. I kind of understand the latter only too well...

You'd think, but Liverpool have actually only done the "double" over them once in the past nine seasons - derbies are rarely a walkover...

Also Everton is one of only two clubs that have never been outside the top division in my lifetime.
The other is [expletive deleted].
From memory anyway - I haven't looked it up. I definitely recall as a kid that Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea were in the old second division at one point.

Spurs went down as well in 1977
The trouble with these records at the moment is most sources act as if football only started with the Premier league

Yeah I can just about remember Liverpool winning the 2nd Div title in the 62/63 season - Bill Shankly's time.

[expletive deleted] have the record for the longest continuous run in the top division, having last been relegated in WWI or so. But Everton have the record for most seasons in the top flight, as they were founder members of the league and have only missed 4 seasons, three of which were in the early 1950s.

Re: Will Everton be relegated?
God Damn it, how did Everton manage to beat Chelsea today! Unbelievable.
The only saving grace is that it might be Leeds now that are relegated instead of Everton. And as much as I like some of the football that Leeds have played in recent years, I REALLY hate their fans (watch yesterday’s match for an example why) so every cloud and all that, huh?

Agree with HYD - Leeds deserve it. Still dirty and some very nasty supporters.

...and yet it is Everton who crippled Virgil and Thiago made a baseless claim of racism against Bobby Firmino, despite the fact he was literally shouting in to the referees ear at the time, and set the development of Divock Origi back years because they couldn't handle getting beaten without lashing out.
Champagne on ice, just in case.

Great day for Everton - Leeds looking in peril. Burnley back in the mix!
City a chance to take a 3pt lead at the top.
Never a dull moment in the PL.
