Where are you off to when lockdown lifts?

I've been watching more TV than usual recently and as I can't really go anywhere, some of the destinations shown look really interesting.

Two that stood out by dint of being show on the box are:

Jodan's Mill (Biggleswade)
https://jordansmill.com/

As shown on Inside the factory - Available on iPlayer at present - Cereal Bars - Caution, contains Gregg Wallace. I don't mind him and the other two presenters have more factual slots of their own.

It appears you can tour the mill for a fee or use the cafe, which has very mixed reviews.

Cetainly not an entire days worth, but looks interesting enough for a punt.

Dover Castle
As shown on Britain's most historic towns - All4 - Series 2 episide 1.
Apart from making me want to visit, the TV show is an extremely good documentary covering many aspects of Dover during World War Two.
https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/vis ... er-castle/

This looks good, a combination of a castle, some tunnels, the history of the D day evacuation.

I didn't know about the castle, Dover has always been a place you drive to to catch a ferry, not somewhere to explore.

So a combination of some days out to look forward to and a couple of TV shows that I found worth watching.

Any other ideas?

B.

I've got about five hundred National Trust estates on my to-do list. A pity, then, that they're nearly all closed at the moment - and that the ones that are going to open soon will be giving up much of their car park space for social-distancing queues - which means that you'll need to book ahead just to get into what little remains of their car parks. :(

Beyond that it's walking, walking, walking. Avebury and the West Kennet Long Barrow are within ten miles of here, and all you have to do is park your car in a suitable public layby which isn't widely known to non-locals, and then embark on one of the most satisfying ten-milers you can find anywhere without needing serious kit. Wonderful.

I'm feeling the pull of South Dorset again, but somehow I don't think I'm the only one, so maybe I'll give it time before I take my chances in the overcrowded coastal car parks. The Ironbridge Gorge (a three-day multiple-site circuit!) is also on my shortlist, and so is York, but once again I'll be taking in some quieter places first. Daughter lives in Snowdonia. Mmmmmmmmmm! :D

If you go to Dover Castle consider driving 12 miles to Walmer Castle (if it is opened by the time you go). It's the residence of the Warden of the Cinque Ports and originally an old Martello Tower. It was where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (who was Warden for 20 years) decamped every year after glorious Goodwood for at least 6 weeks. She drank her Gin and Dubonnet on the gun terrace and sitting out there you can understand why. It has a glorious garden and cottage garden as well as woodland walks. Quite the best place I've visited in quite some time.

I'm going home (Shropshire) to see my mum, and my friends. Hopefully the pubs will be open , as we have a lot of catching up to do...
I was supposed to be back home for Easter, and again this Bank Hol weekend, and was planning on travelling partly via the Severn Valley Railway
The Easter weather would have been perfect, and forecast looks good for this weekend too. So that's two potentially great breaks I've spent on my own, walking the local paths. No hills around here :-(

My neck of the woods. Some good pubs in Ironbridge, if they're open by then... Not sure there's three days worth of stuff to do though, although you could climb the Wrekin or something.

Apart from our local skip, I would like to get up to Wester Ross, north of Skye but that depends on the local hotel being open and that may or may not happen before the end of the season.

We escaped yesterday, had a lovely day in The Cotswolds (walked Temple Guiting to Guiting Power and back through the Farmcote Estate).

I live in NE Scotland and on Monday I'm off for my first game of golf. Booked on line using a app. Only two can play, so booked with my brother, and just a bounce game....but looking forward to it, calm weather forecast too !!

Our local trout loch has just opened up. A nice Greenwell or Black Spider dry fly is the order of the day, maybe Wednesday. Ospreys are nesting at the loch too ,so will be armed with my 300mm f4 L lens and a couple of teleconverters.

Then on 22 June, around summer solstice time, my fishing bud and I have got a weeks grilse/seatrout fishing on the river Deveron, postponed from late May.

So, all in all, life is generally good.

Well, welcome to Shropshire, in advance. Hope it all goes well. :)
There may be better English counties, but I was born there and will probably grow old(er) and expire there assuming my 'move back' plan works out.
Ah, to see the sun set over the Clee hills, or smell the grass and streams up one of the batches (valleys) on the flanks of the Long Mynd...
Makes me feel a bit poetic;

'What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those?'

At least you have some hills. Berkshire is as flat as a witch's tit.

What about Walberry Hill? At almost 300 metres above sea level it is the highest point in the entire south-east.

I doubt I'll need Sherpas or oxygen. It's a bit lame to be honest- I mean I'm an acrophobic and I cant see anything to fall off round there.
Anyways, I'm sure Box Hill is higher

Box Hill isn’t even the highest mountain in Surrey. :)

That's a bit poor then.
It's Leith Hill apparently, about 70m (230ft) higher
Nosebleed territory. Water boils at 70C, Yeti spotted...
