Been trying to get some travel insurance for impending trip but cannot find anyone that does not include the following get out clause:
If you travel to a country where the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises against all or all‑but‑essential travel, you won't be covered under any section of your policy.
In other words you are only covered for a handful of countries and none in Europe (except Iceland).

Something I'm looking at now France has opened up to those who've had their 2nd jab 4 weeks prior to the visit
A couple of press artcles from the Guardian and Telegraph from last year both mention Staysure. The Telegraph article goes further and states As for cost, a spokesperson said a basic two-week policy would be around £20 for a 50-year-old visiting Spain.
And here is the advice from the Go Compare aggregator site
Can I get travel insurance against FCDO advice?
Regular travel insurance won’t cover you.
A few specialist insurers offer policies that will provide specific cover for some eventualities if you travel against FCDO advice. They’re likely to cover the sorts of things ordinary travel insurance covers, such as:
Emergency medical treatment
Repatriation and evacuation
If you need to cancel of cut short your stay
Personal liability
Lost or stolen luggage
Money and passport cover
But they’ll often exclude any cover related to the reasons why the FCDO advise against travelling. So you might be covered for a skiing injury, for example, but not any war or terrorism-related claims if the country’s in a warzone.
I assume the last part means for the standard European destinations, we won't be covered for Covid illnesses.
I wonder what the regs are for the EHIC card regarding travel against FCO advice ?

OK, I've just taken out an annual policy for "extended" Europe which includes Covid cover if tavelling against FCDO advice "all but essential travel". It will not cover me if the advice changes to "against all travel".
Cost for Covid cover, single male, no pre-existing conditions, aged a bit over 60 - £5.00 supplement for the year.
Cover is out there - I chose Avanti as the chat line person was really helpful with my incompetence(!) using the site - but saw it is a trading name of Staysure noted in the Guardian and Telegraph articles referred to above.
