BACKPAXCKERS OR LONG TERM TRAVEL INSURANCE

#503856

Postby SwissPaul » May 30th, 2022, 8:51 pm

Her Ladyship & I are planning to do a tour to South America and then hope to go to Hawaii vis the US. Planning on being away at least 6 months and may even push on to Aus / NZ and come back via Asia.

Any recommendations on travel insurance. We are mid 60's and not into wild sports and have some minor pre-existing.

Thanks

Swiss

Take a look at World Nomads. I have used them many times on long stay long haul travel. However, I have never needed to claim.

Sorry, you must be under 65 years of age.

Let's hope SwissPaul and his Lady are early mid-60s!

It does seem quite young for a cut off these days, but I guess they are aiming at the student backpacker market.

Money Mail has a an article on travel insurance this morning. However possibly more useful is the 'Which' site that lists insurers that don't have maximum ages (don't need to be a member). Search Travel Insurance -> Best Travel Insurance for over 65s.

Also the government (an arm's-length body) Money Helper website (http://www.moneyhelper.org.uk) under -> Everyday money-> Insurance gives firms who cover over 85's and those with serious medical conditions. The form for this allows customisation for trip type, age, length etc. to identify insurance companies that are able to quote.

HOW MUCH I DISLIKE THE DAILY MAIL

I would rather
eat Quavers that are six week’s stale,
blow dry the hair of Gareth Bale,
listen to the songs of Jimmy Nail,
than read one page of the Daily Mail.

Should I sit bored
in a drab waiting room in Perivale,
on a twelve hour trip on British rail
or a world circumnavigational sail,
I would not read the Daily Mail.

It would be preferable
to tread barefoot on a slug's slimy trail,
lick the lumps of a kettle's limescale,
eat a salad comprised of quinoa and kale,
than have to digest the Daily Mail.

I would happily read
the complete works of Peter Mayle,
the autobiography of Dan Quayle,
selected scripts from Emmerdale,
but I couldn’t ever read the Daily Mail.

Far better to
stand outside in a storm of hail,
be blown out to sea in a powerful gale
then swallowed by a humpback whale
than have to read the Daily Mail.

Even if
I were blind
and it was the only thing
in Braille,
I still would not read
the Daily Mail.
