Raspbian Lite updates

#276419

Postby swill453 » January 10th, 2020, 1:50 pm

Last year I installed Raspbian Lite on my Raspberry Pi. Since then I've occasionally tried to update it, but it never finds anything to do. Is this normal?

Does it possibly find and install updates itself without my intervention? Or is it some kind of "stable" release that won't be updated?

Code: Select all

By coincidence I updated my early model Pi yesterday. You're following the correct procedure to get updates I believe.

Following up on my own post:

It seems the OS (Raspbian Lite) does its own regular, unattended updates. In /var/log/apt there are various history.log files with content like

Code: Select all

Start-Date: 2019-12-22  06:30:19
Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade
Upgrade: libsasl2-modules-db:armhf (2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3, 2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3+deb9u1), libsasl2-2:armhf (2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3, 2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3+deb9u1), libsasl2-modules:armhf (2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3, 2.1.27~101-g0780600+dfsg-3+deb9u1)
End-Date: 2019-12-22  06:30:23

I guess if I was concerned about it I could find out what initiates it (cron or whatever), but I'm content that I've at least found an explanation.

There is a package which does this. (apt-get install unattended-upgrades)
Sounds like it may be active on your device.
Details here :- https://wiki.debian.org/UnattendedUpgrades
