I'm running Windows 7 (yes, I'm well aware it's now unsupported) and I've noticed that sometimes when opening a new tab in Chrome the screen turns green for a second before the tab opens.
Having heard references to the green screen of death I'm concerned that this could be a warning that something drastic is about to happen. Are my concerns likely to be justified?

No, this is nothing to do with the Green Screen of Death, the GSoD is something completely unrelated. In Insider preview versions of Windows 10 the normal Blue Screen of Death seen after a system crash is coloured green instead of blue.
Your system is not crashing with a BSoD or GSoD. It appears to be a video driver related issue but not too significant if it is just a momentary thing, annoying rather than a herald of doom.
You may be able to get rid of this green flash if you disable hardware acceleration in Chrome. The How-To Geek shows how to do that here:

Re: Green screen
Thanks. In the course of following the instructions I noticed that my version of Chrome wasn't up to date. Insofar as I'd ever given it any thought (i.e. never!) I'd assumed that it would automatically update itself, but evidently not.
Anyway, having installed the update the problem seems to have disappeared.
But my main worry was the association with the GSOD, so thanks for putting my mind at rest on that score.

Ah, that would explain it
Odd that it was not up to date. By default, Chrome should auto-update.
