Win8 to Win10 upgrade
Another thread notes that a Win7 to Win10 upgrade can be obtained for free. I thought the upgrade period to Win10 had elapsed. Is there a free upgrade from Win8 to Win10 available ?

Microsoft's only official statement was that the free upgrade through the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app ended in 2016.

However, they quietly continued to allow other methods of upgrading to Windows 10 to be activated with a digital licence. You can use the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft to download the ISO or USB install media for Windows 10. If you use that to upgrade an activated W7/W8 to W10 it will be activated with a digital licence for W10.
For Windows 8 the easiest way is to use the MCT's option to 'make install media for another PC...' and make the ISO. W8 can mount an ISO as a virtual drive by double-clicking on it. Run the Setup.exe you'll find in the root of the ISO drive to start the upgrade.
