Looking for the best "thing" to use to watch Internet TV programmes and downloaded movies in my campervan, plus also some web browsing and email (so an actual television is no good).
Requirements:
- wifi
- ability to run BBC iPlayer and similar
- ability to run VNC or similar to watch downloaded or DVD-converted videos
- some storage, but not really a huge amount as long as it can handle USB sticks or SD cards
- good HD screen with good viewing angle, 14+ inches preferable but maybe 12" would do
- lowish power consumption
- decent sound/speaker - this is the thing I know least about just by looking at online specs
- quiet operation
Things I'm not too bothered about:
- operating system can be Windows/Linux/Android/ChromeOS
- could be tablet or laptop format
- doesn't necessarily need touch screen
Looking for best value with above specs - I reckon a £300 Windows laptop would cut it but looking for options.
TIA
Scott.

If needed, laptop sound can be improved with external speakers.

Yes I know, but would prefer a self-contained device if possible. The sound doesn't need to travel far, I expect there will just be the two of us sitting 1m or less from the screen.

Re: Watching telly on the move
For most of those requirements just about any laptop will cut it
The two hard bits as you've mentioned are sound quality and viewing angle
On the sound at a minimum you need to check it has stereo
- and it's probably going to underwhelm anyway
- I'd try an HP Paviliion in a shop (their audio is by B&O) and decide that I was better off buying a PC for half the price and getting a cheap bluetooth speaker to sit behind the screen when watching (just make sure it has an AUX in port)
the viewing angle is harder to work around
- if you can try and find any IPS panel equipped machines in your price range - that might mean looking at "seconds" or outlets
- sd
