SKY Hub, security when disposing of...

I'm about to swap routers having switched to Now TV (I know it's the same company...long story)
Not sure what happens to my elderly SKY router, but does it store any potentially sensitive information that needs to be wiped before disposal?
I'm assuming not, but you never know what goes on within ...

Speaking from ignorance here (in the absence of informed replies).

Presumably the information it *might* hold is your credentials to identify yourself/your account to their service. If you've discontinued the service, those would presumably become worthless, even if they could in principle be (ab)used from another address.

I guess a log of your porn viewing might also be of concern if you're under police scrutiny. Do you have viewing habits you'd be unhappy to share, and if so (more critically) are you a high-enough value target for anyone to identify the box as yours and look for it (if it even exists there)? If police had serious suspicions about you, they could go through a legal process to demand information from Sky.

Have you checked sky's own website for any FAQs about disposing of a router?

My viewing history is pretty boring to be honest - lots of YouTube camping and bushcraft videos..
More concerned about financial websites etc
I can't really see how any 'buffer' in the router could contain anything sensitive, but I am by nature a worrier

A reset should be sufficient for peace of mind....
A reset is taking every setting and returning them to factory defaults...

...Press and hold the reset button until the power light flashes on and off four times then stays on. This takes about 10 seconds. If you don't allow the power light to flash a total of four times it will only reboot the router instead of resetting it as desired.

Please remember that this reset will erase every setting you have ever changed on this device.

There is nothing useful stored in your router. Not unless your WiFi password is also your bank password. In which case change your bank password!

Anything financially sensitive[1] would be encrypted before the router gets sight of it. So even a router that was actively spying would have no access to that. Worst you're giving away is at the level of a log entry: you made a secure connection to ${bank} at ${timestamp}

[1] And lots more besides. Even your lemonfool activity!
