I'm trying to copy a lot of data off an old XP desktop using a USB 3.1 flash drive. Although the drive can be seen as E: in the file manager, clicking on it gives the message 'The disk in drive E: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?'.
The (new) 128GB USB works on another device, and a different USB stick works on the pc, so I'm guessing it's a driver problem? Can anyone suggest a safe place to download a driver or give any other view on why it's not working?

Common problem, apparently....

See if this fix works for you.

If not, then can you network this XP machine? Windows 10 cannot by default connect to shares on an XP machine, but if you enable 'SMB 1.0/CIFS Client' in 'Turn Windows features on or off' then it can.
Or you could just use the smaller USB that does work on both

Is it file system problem? FAT32 vs EXFAT vs NTFS - is there a difference between the drives that work and the larger one that doesn't?
