Android help

My wife has a Moto G5 Android phone. She hardly uses it, and so is unsure how to use it correctly.

Yesterday, she got a notification from BT that she was near to her 400min monthly allowance, which is odd because she normally uses way less than 30min per month. I assumed that she had made a call and failed to hang up, so I checked her usage on the BT Mobile website.

She called me at 17:05 on wednesday, and the call log showed 330 minutes. But the call log also shows that she called me at 17:10 for 2 minutes, and again 30 minutes later for 5 minutes.

So, is there any way that Android can make a call, fail to hang up, but then make 2 other calls while the first call is still active? Or is this a simple case of a billing screw-up?

Even if it has a dual sim you can't make two calls at once
so it sounds like a c*ck up

Yes you can make another call while you've got an active call. That's how conference calls work.

And if you call the same number as the active call, it could go to voicemail and you'd be none the wiser.

Not saying that's definitely what happened, but it's possible.

Yes, that would be the easiest one to accidentally (re)dial, because it's the last one used.

yes but it wouldn't get through to that same number if it was still in use (from the first call)

Yes, but as I said in my first response, it could go to voicemail (which obviously will count as minutes from the allowance).

Does the log of received calls on your phone match what her log shows?

A call that went to voicemail wouldn't necessarily show up in the received call log, so that might not be conclusive.

....you might expect a very long voicemail to have been left?

I just checked the call logs and the times and durations mostly match. However my phone shows a missed call at the time of the very long call on my wife's phone, but I did not get a voicemail. I vaguely remember hitting the wrong icon at the time of the missed call, and my wife called me again a minute later.

Have you got call waiting enabled on your phone? Just thinking if you put her first call on hold somehow?
I can remember getting in a pickle with call waiting years ago and I now have it switched off by default.

That sounds like what you can tell them to help investigate; would be strange to allow two calls between the same two mobiles

It very well might be their mistake if the two start times were very close together
