I know it's time I updated my ancient 2007 version of Office, but it (normally) works perfectly well, and I tend to work on the basis of `if it ain't broke don't fix it'.
However, it is broke - or at least the Outlook part of it is. Although I can still send and receive emails OK the search facility has effectively stopped working.
I normally use it a lot to locate the last email from someone, but now when I enter the search term I just get a message saying No matches found for [search term] even though I know there are plenty of emails with that search term.
Above it there's a message that says:
Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details.
And when I click for more details I receive the following pop-up message (the numbers vary):
Outlook is currently indexing your items
Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed.
959 items remaining in personal folders.
40360 items remaining across all open mailboxes
I was initially patient, assuming it would eventually complete the indexing, but after a couple of days the figure has now remained much the same.
I've checked the Tools > Options > Search Options and all the relevant folders are ticked. It just appears that for whatever reason the indexing function has ceased to operate.
TIA for any assistance.

Did you try a rebuild of search?

Rebuild your search catalog
1.Close Outlook and open Control Panel.Note: Depending on the version of Office you're using, you might need to click the Start button, and on the Start menu, right-click Control Panel.
2.Do one of the following:
Choose Indexing Options.
In the Search box, type Indexing, and then choose Indexing Options.
3.In the Indexed Locations dialog box, under Change selected locations, select the check box for the location you want to modify, and then click OK.
4.In the Advanced Options dialog box, on the Index Settings tab, under Troubleshooting, click Rebuild.Note: A Rebuild Index dialog box opens warning that the "index might take a long time to complete." Choose OK to start rebuilding the index.
