Pictures spooling

#459403

Postby 88V8 » November 19th, 2021, 7:50 pm

The last two days, when I view items on eBay, the picture are spooling.
That's to say that they load without delay but there is the spooling ring in the middle of them.

Happens with Firefox and Edge, I cleared the Firefox cache, no improvement.

There are no recent posts about this on the eBay forum, so it's presumably a problem on my PC.

The day before I used this site https://webptojpg.com/ to convert a webimage to jpeg so I could post it on a forum, and twice crashed my PC. Don't know if that's related.

This doesn't prevent me using eBay but I'm concerned that it may indicate some incipient disaster.
Any ideas please?

The webp to jpeg site - you say it crashed the PC, not just the web browser? That should be quite hard to have happen.

Do you have any web browser extensions installed? Have you tried an incognito web browser window - that would also eliminate possible problems due to cookies? You can open those with shift ctrl p in firefox, or shift ctrl n in Edge.

Well, everything seized up, the site I was on, other tabs, email, so I had to unplug it.

I do routinely use inPrivate, and the only extension is Adblocker Plus.

It's worth trying task manager (ctrl shift escape) and killing the web browser for preference - less risk of disk corruption or similar.

Do the images also spool in InPrivate? FWIW, ublock origin I think does a better job now.

The issue being present with two different web browsers is very odd.

I've seen similar behaviour that looked to be down to overenthusiastic attempts to block adds
- basically the webpage expected to load a video add and didn't give up (but a reload nudged it along)

If you find your browser's "developer mode" and have a look at the traffic sent (normally called Network on the tab) you'll see what's not getting a response and that might give you some clues

I've been getting exactly the same apparent spooling on three different devices (PC, phone and chromebook), all using chrome. No adblocker or any other extensions running.

Then yesterday, the phenomenon has disappeared.
Perhaps an eBay problem.

Anyway, no disasters at my end.

Most likely a problem with the site, because I also came across this.
