Bluetooth dissapeared
Hi,
Bluetooth seems to have dissapeared from my laptop. Any ideas how i can retrieve it?. The bluetooth on/off toggle switch has vanished from settings. I've removed the bluetooth driver from device manager and this was re-installed after a windows re-start, but the toggle switch still isn't there.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Bluetooth dissapeared
If the above solutions don't work check the BIOS to see if it is visible - if not it might be a hardware issue.
Either msata/mPCIe seating (if a card) or failure. BT cards are cheap but if it's soldered to the laptop motherboard then the logistics/costs might make it uneconomic to repair - in which case use a USB BT dongle as a replacement and make sure device manager is adjusted accordingly.

Re: Bluetooth dissapeared
Hi
Thanks. I've tried all the suggestions. Nothing works. Bluetooth worked fine yesterday though so don't know why it suddently failed.
When I now look in device manager, select bluetooth, right click and choose properties, the following message appears
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I think buying a USB bluetooth adaptor is the way to go, cheers.

Re: Bluetooth dissapeared
Have you opened the laptop up to see if there is an actual physical issue with the BT card (if fitted)?
Have a search for the service manual for your model number - loads available as PDF's on the web... https://www.manualslib.com/
The antenna can become detached if it's had a knock (once happened on my desktop somehow...). They are on a push fit - easily repaired. The Wi-Fi/BT cards tend to have better performance than the USB dongles so if easily replaceable I'd rather do that - although it's worth having a BT dongle as a spare to A/B with.

Antenna fit would generally show up as a performance issue rather than a removal
Could be seating in a slot though if it is a different module from wifi
I'd probably start with a look in device manager to see if it's there or not (control panel -> device manager)
and if so that it shows no indication of known problems (and try removing and redetecting it anyway to see if it triggers windows in to revealing the missing access)

Check in device manager and see if there was a recent driver update - maybe some recent Windows security update messed with specific BT drivers and an update got released? Code 43 alerts can be driver related.
It's worth keeping tabs on Windows updates and performance issues in general - correlation isn't necessarily causation but it's a good place to start...
