Our simple TV started to pixilate about a month ago, with a message on the screen saying "digital tv invalid format" and now, "no signal". I looked online but all I could find concerned a set top box, we have no set top box for that TV, it is plugged directly into the aerial cable. I cleaned the aerial cable connections although there did not seem to be anything wrong with them to no avail.

Re: invalid format
How old is it?
Does it have any sort of "system status" menu item, and if so, what does it say?
Does it have a "reset" menu item (or obscure button round the back, or hole that you stick the end of a paper clip into)?

Re: invalid format
"have you tried turning it off and on again"
...and if you've cleaned the antenna connections could there be a problem with the antenna itself?
Trying a simple "with and without" might tell you if the antenna makes any difference

Re: invalid format
Thanks for the replies.
We have; auto search 0 programs, please retune, reset, press and hold AQT and wait 4 minutes. We also tried plugging into another aerial outlet. Nothing works.
looking to see how old it is, we realised that it is only 3 years old and came with a 5 year guarantee from John Lewis, so plan to call them tomorrow.

Re: invalid format
The problem was diagnosed at home as an aerial fault and the technician suggested I try the line on another socket on the splitter. I said that as nothing has been touched for ten years, what about the cable outlet, could that be faulty? It is an old fitting and he suggested tightening up the clamping screws which I did and so far all is well. Actualy, the TV is in the kitchen and I now suspect that the outlet could be dirty, it must have been installed 25 or so years ago so if it goes again, I will replace it.
