Ebay search oddity

#509081

Postby DrFfybes » June 23rd, 2022, 5:33 pm

I've been looking for drive belts for my mower on ebay.

On my Lenovo Win10 laptop I type in a search term, say "M15577 belt" and it says "4 results", but does not show them. Below it says "results matching fewer words" and lists those.
Same thing happens if I search for an item number, such as 154144408526.

I've signed out, cleared the cache and cookies, rebooted, and when I go back it is fine for the first search, then the problem reappears and the filter "worldwide" as item location appears ticked.

Now for the really odd bit, if I change the sort order from "best match" to "nearest first", the exact matches appear!

Upstairs on my desktop it is fine with my Ebay login, and also on MrsF's Win10 laptop, so it is something machine specific, but what?

All are using Firefox browser. Any clues?

Paul

"Best match" means filter out anything you are not 100% sure is relevant, you might think that matching a part number would count as relevant, but our machine overlords know better.

As for why different machines give different results, I dont know.

My default search is Newly Listed, but it sometimes gives me only a few of the results I know are there.

And sometimes now I have to 2Fa just to log in, which is a pita, or complete a lot of capchas. Or not.

It's erratic.

I wonder if eBay has hormonal issues.
