Just switched to BT FTTP - two niggles

#513452

Postby Newroad » July 11th, 2022, 1:48 pm

Afternoon All.

I've just switched this morning and all is up and running - so no big issues.

However, I have two niggles

    1. I can't split the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz wireless SSID's (with the supplied BT Smart Hub 2), and
    2. I don't know how to get the pair of supplied BT Essential Digital Home Phones to talk to each other like an intercom

I think (1) is structural and an unforunate by product of BT trying to be helpful (read "simplify"): https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/fix-a-problem/broadband-and-wi-fi/i-want-to-improve-my-wi-fi/how-do-i-split-my-bt-hub-s-ssid--wireless-network-name--#:~:text=show%20you%20how.-,Most%20new%20devices%20work%20well%20with%20dual%2Dband%20wi%2Dfi,by%20splitting%20your%20Hub's%20SSID.&text=Please%20note%3A%20the%20Smart%20Hub,use%20with%20Complete%20Wi%2DFi.&text=The%20BT%20Smart%20Hub%20is%20dual%20band.

I am more hopeful for (2) - but I've read the more detailed manual (https://www.bt.com/content/dam/bt/help/digital-voice/essential-phone/BT-Essential-Digital-Home-Phone-UserGuide.pdf) and still can't see how - any ideas?

Regards, Newroad

The page you linked re (1) says: "Please note: the Smart Hub 2 doesn't have this capability as it's designed for use with Complete Wi-Fi." - so it looks as if you're right and it is 'structural'.

I don't see anything in the manual which suggests that (2) is a possibility. Did you see something elsewhere that suggested otherwise?

Hi Chas49.

No, I haven't re (2) - nor have I seen it mentioned as not possible either.

However, you can transfer calls between the handsets and even call through both at the same time - so it strikes me as being simple to have implemented. If someone thought to do so.

You can intercom between phones. You just press the right arrow 3 times (I think) then you should have a list of handsets you can call

Brilliant Thorn95 :)

That was it (right arrow, two times)! I figured it was likely there somewhere, but, as you saw, I couldn't find it documented in the manual.

I have actually kept my old phones (not connected to the copper) to use purely for intercom purposes, but now I'll be able to switch them out.
