Wiping Amazon Fire tablet with broken screen
I've got a Fire 7 with a completely broken unusable screen (don't ask..)
Just got a replacement and connected it to my account. I haven't deregistered the old one yet - both are showing
How can I wipe/factory reset the broken one without needing to use the screen?
I didn't do any banking etc from it, so it's probably not that important, but I don't like the idea of it going to recycling with any data remaining
I could just deregister, then whack the memory chip with a screwdriver a few times

Re: Wiping Amazon Fire tablet with broken screen
yeah, tried connecting it to laptop and it shows up as 'Fire' on file manager, but no way to do anything with it.
It's got a fairly large lithium battery so I'm tempted to take it to the woods and incinerate it from a safe distance

Re: Wiping Amazon Fire tablet with broken screen
Could you find a ytube tutorial on how to do the factory reset, press and hold on and volume down for 10 seconds type thing then by knowing the key strokes copy the steps with the dead screen? Still I've no idea how you check if you have wiped it is there?
Is it just the screen? Looks like £10 for a new screen and as they're what? 10 times that new I'd fancy trying the repair. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303597792498 ... =431968892

tried YouTube but most vids assume one can see the screen
The whole thing was £40 (in 2017), and the (refurb) replacement £45 so not bothering with repairs

probably too late then but https://youtu.be/ApCLfDWZRL0?t=37 looks like a menu you could attempt.

Maybe:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer ... G201439790
though it does rely on you already having location-based services turned on, along with Manage Your Device features.
And I'd imagine they're probably not.
