This is for the true geeks but worth reading through all three articles if you want to understand the ins and outs of routers, and how some of the fancy expensive ones aren't anywhere near as good as the manufacturers claims (quel surprise...).

Others in the same boat could do as my daughter did: she has been a customer of the ISP concerned for several years and used the router originally supplied by them.
She simply rang them and said she was switching suppliers as their router was giving trouble.
She was sent a much more up-to-date one free.

+1 for stewamax's suggestion. I tried this conversation with my ISP (PlusNet) about a year ago and they happily waived the usual p+p cost for the new free router once I'd pointed out how many years I'd been with them.
