I have a couple of white ceilings with old brown stains on them from previous plumbing incidents. What do people think is the best way to paint them over?
I already used a Polycell stain covering product on one of them but I didn't like it as it was too thick andl left an orange peel effect.
Zinsser is popular ... but which particular product? It needs to be brushed on ... not an aerosol.
TIA

you can just use an oil based undercoat paint and then repaint with emulsion

As stated by novoiceleft or have a look at the Zinsser range. They do a variety of products which will do the job. I use them for a variety of problem painting jobs and they have never let me down.

Yup - this should do it, basically anything oil based to the water based brown pigment doesn''t come through.
I had some Damp Seal paint in the garage which I used on Tuesday for exactly this problem. 2 coats with a brush onto a textured paper(!) and then rollered on some Matt White and can't see it. Yet.
