I haven't checked for a few years, but the price of electric was approximately 4x that of gas last time I looked.
So direct electric heating is a non-starter for me.
Heat pumps could be more interesting, however I doubt there is any significant advantage.
Pay 3~4x for the energy and get 3~4x efficiency.

I am paying 19.84p day rate and 11.6p night rate so I'm wondering if your perception of how efficiently your system uses electricity is down to these unusually low electricity prices your supplier is charging.
Depends on your postcode I suspect.
Yorkshire energy supply us in Shropshire
Gas: 12.206 p/day: 2.42 p/kWh
Elec 18.8/day and 12.794/kWh
For mum in Oldham it is
Gas 17.363 p/day 3.077 p/kWh
Elec 10.257 p/day 14.115 p/kWh
Prices Inc VAT.

Re: Switching from Gas to Electric Central Heating
I'm in Essex & my electric is 16p day & 8p night.
Of course a large proportion of my day time electricity use is free as I have solar panels.
Mike.....I think you need to shop around
