Help, I'm going quietly crazy here. Trying to replace a hardwood door threshold (or sill) that has an upright metal bar sticking up, in order to keep rainwater from driving in. That's the kind where the galvanised bar fits into a deep groove that runs the full length of the threshold. The bottom edge of the door is then 'stepped' so as to clear the metal water bar and thus to close properly.
You'd think it would be easy, wouldn't you? Alas, no such luck. All I can find are plastic water bars, some of which are said to be made of foam! Not nearly rufty-tufty enough for the heavy traffic across this threshold. Howdens have one such: https://www.howdens.com/hardware/screws ... ly-dfr0903 . I can also buy the galvanised water bars on their own (https://www.sdhardware.co.uk/thresholds ... -water-bar ), but I couldn't guarantee that they'd fit in place of the weebly plastic "seal". Unless anyone here knows for sure?
All suggestions/experiences gratefully accepted. The last time I replaced one of these thresholds (with integral steel water bars) was 24 years ago, and every DIY shed had them. Drat and tarnation!

Re: External threshold with a steel water bar?
I have the same on my doors and assuming you have no way of machining the timber then at least here in the wilds of Lincolnshire I can think of at least 4 timber merchants nearby that would make it from a drawing (or the old one) at a reasonable cost. I had 15 metres of 6" two-part custom skirting machined to a template before Christmas and I paid about (I *think* )£8/£9 odd a metre at a small steel town in N.Lincs whose name triggers the swear filter.
My son has one of the plastic ones and it has broken so one of my assigned jobs is to replace it after lock down with a nice piece of timber. Currently stuck together with industrial super glue!

Hi
Is it possible to cut out the timber threshold and fit a metal 2 part weather bar Wintun W/B I think they were called. Have a look at the Stormguard website they have many options.

Amongst which is the Macclesfield sill, which looks a better designed solution. Been using them for years. Although they 've given it a new name - https://www.stormguard.co.uk/stormguard ... superseal/
