Bosch Oven Light Removal
The bulb in our Bosch Oven has blown. Bosch sent a plastic tool to remove the glass cover (see link) but it doesn't seem to want to budge. I don't want to apply too much force in case it shatters. Has anyone experience how to loosen these?

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
Plenty videos on Youtube showing they just turn anticlockwise, with or without the tool. Maybe warm the oven a bit first to soften any sticky residue?

I'm feeling a bit dumb for not trying youtube . Heat is also a good suggestion for loosening it given the inability to use oil.
Thanks Scott!

I think this Youtube video shows your actual oven and light cover, so might be worth a look just to get some confidence-

Thanks @itsallaguess.
I just found this one as well which shows the tool and suggests heat:

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
Just a thought, maybe you'd be better "breaking" it and fitting a new one along with the new lamp !

That would be correct if it weren't for Bosch's prices for spares. It might be cheaper to buy a new oven!
I'm just back from having heated the oven and managing to unscrew the cover first time. Thank you all.

I'm late to the party, but I have a Bosch oven and the plastic tool and have changed the bulb many times. Heating the oven is the solution as you've now worked out.

It's certainly useful to know that there's a special tool for the job. I've usually managed (though often with difficulty) by using a rubber glove.

To Bosch's credit they did send me the plastic tool free of charge and it worked a treat when following the advice above.

FWIW I thought it would take some cleaning but I used some 'bar keepers friend' and the crud came off really easily.

In 40+ years of oven ownership, I have never had to change an oven bulb, no, I tell a lie, one in a now deceased microwave.
I did not know but do now, that oven bulbs come in two ratings:
Good for 300C and good for 450C
I wonder which will last longer.............

There is a design fault on my Bosch double oven. The bulb in the top oven is in the centre of its ceiling and has never blown. The bulb in the bottom oven is in the back right corner and it blows annually, uncannily at almost always 12 months since the last time. I raised this with Bosch 3 times during their 3 year warranty and had them send me free bulbs twice and an engineer came out and changed the entire light unit the 3rd time. Since then I've replaced the blown bulb at least another 5 times. Both top and bottom ovens are used about the same amount. I always buy the same Philips bulbs that Bosch have previously supplied and I now buy in bulk!

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
I have a Neff oven that has the same issue. Oven bulb located top right rear corner and fails every 12 months on average.
The bulbs are cheap and every 12 months is no big deal. The secret is not to over tighten the glass cover and then it's very easy to remove next time.

Yes - I believe Neff and Bosch have the same parent company. The engineer Bosch sent who replaced the light unit was a Neff engineer.

Is it possible that's the reason the bulb fails so frequently?

Not in my case. Tightening it any harder than I tighten it would risk it smashing. It is made of glass.

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
Unfortunately, even after removing the cover, I find that the actual bulb socket in mine is rather loose, such that I daren't remove the blown bulb, let alone replace it. TBH though it's just fine without, I'm not sure the bulb serves any particularly useful purpose from my point of view.

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
I have NEFF ovens and to change the bulb means taking the entire oven out of its housing and like Stompa, when a bulb went, decided it was too much hassle. Like him, I do not see that the light is necessary in any case.

Re: Bosch Oven Light Removal
There is earth leakage with a broken tungsten bulb. In my case this is sometimes sufficient to trip the RCD which knocks out the oven and also my computers and NAS units in my office which is highly inconvenient. So I have to at least remove the old broken bulb. I haven't tested, to see if it would trip with no bulb. I also like to see what's going on inside my oven without having to open it, so I replace the broken bulb.

I wondered how long it would be before someone suggested this. The answer is no, the glass cover is tightened sufficiently. But I know some people have a tendency to overdo anything.......wheel nuts on cars are often a good example of their over enthusiasm.
