Failed bulb in freezer

#616035

Postby MyNameIsUrl » September 20th, 2023, 12:15 pm

The incandescent lamp in my old chest freezer failed, apparently with a flash and a bang when the lid was opened. A new bulb doesn’t work, and there appears to be no voltage in the fitting. The freezer still works fine.

There’s no switch visible. Is it likely there is a fuse protecting the lamp? I don’t want to start dismantling looking for something which may not exist.

Yes - it could be separately fused. If there is then it should be somewhere accessible near to where the power comes in - usually a removable panel on the back.

Also often a microswitch somewhere in the hinge mechanism if there is nothing obvious visible - I've never come across one that uses a magnetic reed switch although they might exist.

Best thing is to find the model number and look search for user manuals or repair videos, although it might be a lot easier to buy a small LED cupboard light and a hook :)
