If you became non resident for tax purposes form SA109 needs to be completed and sent to the tax office.

Should this be done immediately you leave the UK to the new job abroad, or can it be submitted at the close of the tax year in which you left the UK?

Thank you in advance. Paul

No time to look in detail but the SA109 is a supplementary page for a Tax Return and it may not be possible to complete it until after the end of the tax year concerned. Below is the form and the notes (for 2018-19):

See also page Box 8 TR 2 here https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/829400/SA100.pdf

I think your first port of call should be https://www.gov.uk/tax-right-retire-abroad-return-to-uk which contains further detail, including mention of split year treatment and form 85 and also see https://www.gov.uk/tax-foreign-income.

as of last tax year the SA109 could not be submitted in usual 'online' returns..you were forced into buying extra software...or going back to paper return
not sure for 19/20..
