WFH tax relief

#397019

Postby mutantpoodle » March 19th, 2021, 10:11 am

apologies in advance!!

i have logged into my Gateway online account for HMRC
and was hoping to be able to register for the governments tax relief for working from home....£6 a week relief
I cannot find anywhere any link or option to claim this relief

I have already conpleted and paid due tax on my 19-20 tax year...so not to bothered about opening a closed year
but will shortly be doing my 20/21 return and the extra relief will be appreciated if its available, I would like it !!

I realise tat I am not as young as I used to be..but I just cannot see/find it at all

please would someone direct me....or is it only possible to do when I am actualy copleting the return

(last nights Martin Lewis seemed to suggest 'get on with it')

Have you followed his guide? https://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2020 ... aim-p6-wk-

BTW it's relief on £6/week, not £6/week relief.

Scott.

You can amend your submitted online 2019/20 tax return yourself without any input from HMRC until 31 January 2022.

I'm planning to claim it through my return instead of using the miscrosite, put it in the "Other expenses and capital allowances" heading in the Employment section for my main job:

many thanks indeed I will be doing the return in April so its not too long to wait
and it will reduce fractionally what they then ask for

they do not make it easy though, do they!

A related question - does anyone know whether the relief is for all weeks where the employee is required to work from home, or only on weeks they actually worked (i.e. not including holidays and Christmas closures)?

Thanks in advance...

According to Martin Lewis: "Required to work from home even for ONE DAY since 6 April 2020? You can claim tax relief for the WHOLE YEAR – worth £60 or £125."

Thank you for that. When I first read your extract, I thought I had messed up my 2019-20 tax return, claiming only for 2 weeks that I was required to work at home, but it appears that this applies to 2020-21 only. But it's still nice that I can claim for holidays and closures.
