Tax Day (apolitical)

The 23rd of March was billed as "tax day", where various consultations would be launched about future tax policy (but not, they promised, actual changes). Much was said about pension tax relief and CGT, but so far its been rather a damp squib. I've been watching https://www.gov.uk/search/policy-papers ... sultations, and while they've posted various consultations, their overview document does not mention anything major affecting the individual. https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... pring-2021

Discussion about actual tax policy proposals please. No speculation, discussion on the value of money, and I don't want the politics mob driving people away.

I never understood the media froth about 'Tax Day'.
The Budget for the coming tax year was earlier in the month so anything of interest was going to be said then.
Usual media fuss over nothing.

to Making Tax Digital (MTD) includes As previously announced, the government intends to legislate later this year to extend MTD to Income Tax Self Assessment from April 2023 and may well be major for many.

Looks like one may need to find the additional background papers or consultation or whatever, as the lack of detail on that page as to whether or not the latest concerns only Businesses is not immediately obvious to me. I haven't researched further to see where we may be on MTD but I recall there were changes afoot and I have found an incoming email from last summer stating business owners and landlords will have new digital requirements to meet when they're recording and reporting income tax from 2023. That most certainly impacting individuals and is a practical matter.

Good luck with that but that was my intention with The Budget - 3 March 2021 - Taxes Practical viewtopic.php?p=391811#p391811. You can see what happened fairly soon into the thread, come page 2, and too many alerts ended up with the topic being shunted to The Economy, which is within Polite Debate & Discussion, as you probably know. Same thing happened on the previous Budget if I recall correctly.

I think paper2 from the OTS re CGT Simplifying by Design must still be to come, I have been chasing around the net for it half today, all Paper 1 said was that it would be in early 2021, so maybe we have to wait a little longer.
