Looking for recommendations for a Growth IT

#278528

Postby alchemist888 » January 19th, 2020, 1:54 pm

Good morning all,

I’ve just turned 40 and have a Stocks & Shares ISA that I hope to supplement my pension when I retire.

I’m looking for recommendations please for a growth I.T to add to my current basket of investment trusts that pay excellent incomes, which is great for re investment. I’m looking for a growth I.T so I can sell closer to retirement to invest in the income generating trusts.

Current portfolio :

Scottish Mortgage - Gain of 163%

III - Gain of 135%

Monks - Gain of 32%

City of London - Gain of 23%

Murray International - Gain of 25%

Henderson High Income - Gain of 11%

Henderson Far East Income - Gain of 7%

Standard Life Property - Gain of 7%

Edinburgh -Gain of 6%

3i Infrastructure- Gain of 6%

Bailie Gifford Japan - Gain of 8%

International Biotech Trust - Gain of 4%

New City High Yield - Gain of 1%

Aberdeen Asian Investment Fund - Gain of 1%

All of the above I’ve invested £4K over the past 10 years since I’ve started to invest in conjunction with my pension.

Many thanks in advance,

At first glance, you don't seem to have much exposure to UK medium and smaller caps, so perhaps worth looking at Mercantile?

Look at:

* Mid Wynd
* Bankers
* F&C
* Scottish American

Some of them mention income but I would say all have good growth prospects i.e. they don't focus solely on yield.

Mid Wynd IT run by Artemis is a good candidate as is Bankers run by Henderson. A relatively new manager is at the helm of Martin Currie Global Growth and has done very well to date, it does seem a little more volatile than Mid Wynd (I hold both) but the managers' commentary makes sense and this one is worth considering. Personally, at this moment, I would opt for an index ETF such as (SWDA) iShares MSCI World, (VWRL) Vanguard All World or (HMWO) HSBC All World. Current IT discounts & premiums are not compelling imho.

You might find this analysis of ten large growth trusts since 2006 of use:

Excellent thank you very much for the responses.

A lot of trusts for me to research and and start a new monthly regular investment.

Scottish Mortgage was a good call; I'd keep that and add some UK and global mid/smaller caps, private equity and sector specialists. BlackRock Throgmorton, BlackRock and Henderson Smaller Companies, BMO Global Smaller Companies, Smithson, Pantheon International, Polar Capital Technology and Worldwide Healthcare might be worth looking at.
