SOI/HFEL/AAIF - foreign income

I didn't realise that AAIF (see link) is currently classed as foreign income for the purposes of tax reporting!
viewtopic.php?p=468512#p468512

I note in my wife's interactive investor account that the dividends from AAIF are marked as foreign/overseas.

I looked at the ISIN , GB00B0P6J834 / Country of share register =GB and thought "not foreign"!

So,

Is "SOI" also classed as foreign income on a tax return?
The country of incorporation is Guernsey but the ISIN for SOI is GB00B0CWN59 (country of share register is GB).

And

HFEL has the ISIN JE00B1GXH751 and is incorporated in Jersey.

What makes it foreign income, is it the place where the shares are incorporated?

Domicile. The AIC lists it, e.g. https://www.theaic.co.uk/AAIF.

Note though, before you get confused, SOI changed its domicile from Guernsey to the United Kingdom in the middle of the last tax year. https://www.theaic.co.uk/companydata/0P00008F4Y/announcements/43420

In any case, it makes no difference tax-wise, other than the box you stick it into in self-assessment.

Henderson Far East Income moved to the UK in the 2019/20 tax year. Since then its dividends are UK income.

Company nationality is the country where its headquarters is located.

I was just looking at the latest 6m HFEL report on the AIC website . I copied the text on company status as I remembered the move you mention.

https://www.theaic.co.uk/companydata/0P00008ZSY

"a) Company Status
The Company is a Jersey domiciled closed end investment company, number 95064, which was incorporated in 2006
and is listed on the London and New Zealand stock exchanges. The Company became UK tax resident with effect
from 1 September 2018.

So, it seems one cannot just look for where it is domiciled ( I'm getting confused!).

Me too. I thought "domicile" meant, inter alia, where it was taxed and, from that, whether it was considered "foreign" or not. Seems not. :?

Maybe DavidM13 can explain?
