BMO pulls out of Europe:

Scale is critical to making any money with ETFs and BMO failed to achieve it. I suspect we may see a few more tiddlers disappear before long.

This is a real disappointment since BMO were offering some of the most innovative ETFs on the market.

In particular, their Enhanced Income ETFs (e.g. ZWUK) through the use of dynamic call options provided not only enhanced yield when the market was moving sideways but also offered a measure of defensive protection against falling markets. An extremely useful passive investment tool and one that, as far as I'm aware, has not been replicated. The fees were also reasonable compared to other smart beta ETFs and a great pity that BMO have not shown much staying power as I'm sure the market for these would have grown in time.
