  1. Money is invested
  2. The investment fails to meet it's anticipated financial targets and returns
  3. The investors want a return on their investment - or perhaps their money back
  4. Decisions made about the future of the business now become clouded trying to get the investors monies back
  5. Focused on the past, at the expensive of the future, the business moves closer to failure
