How do I tell if my WV T5 transporter is a Long or Short wheel base?
question in the thread title
How do I tell if my WV T5 transporter is a Long or Short wheel base?
I "get" that its the distance beween centres of front and rear wheels. But that's as much as googliong seemse to tell me - no other indications as to what distance is which - well, other than they are 400mm different. helpful - not! What IS a SWB distance for example?
Is there anything on the V5 that would give a clue?
cheers

Torsion bar suspension, isn't it? So your nearside rear wheel will be further back than your offside one? (Or vice versa, I forget.)
It's bound to be on the VIN information plate, although it'll be a chassis code.

Wikipedia doesn't give the distance between the axles.
But it does list the length as 4,892 mm (192.6 in) or 5,290 mm (208.3 in). My guess is that this includes bumpers.Do either of those correspond to your vehicle?
I also see on http://vanguide.co.uk/vw-transporter-dimensions an image showing 3.0 or 3.4 m between axles.
Hope this helps,
Rover

Assuming your T5 has a sliding side door, look at the gap between the trailing edge of the door when closed and the rear wheel arch. A LWB has more than a foot of metal between the two, while a SWB has the wheel arch adjacent to the door edge.

This looks spot on - I did 40 seconds of Google image searching for SWB T5 and LWB T5 and can see the difference as described.
