Breakdown Cover
My breakdown cover with Start Rescue is due for renewal in one months time.
The price has jumped £21 from £35.45 to £56.12. This is for the three start cover with home rescue and nationwide recovery.
I'm unlikely to need it because I have just put a new battery in my car last week after the old one died. Dead batteries seem to be very common at the moment. My sister and brother in law work for a breakdown company and they get this all the time right now.
I have a Japanese car so it is quite reliable. I've never had a breakdown yet unlike my previous car a Renault which broke down all the time. The only issue I've ever had with Mazda has been with their dealerships and garages who misdiagnose issues, rely on technology too much instead of troubleshooting properly, and are thoroughly incompetent but that is another story.
Can anyone advise of any breakdown plans to consider besides Start Rescue? I have a feeling that despite the £21 jump in price it may still be difficult to find one cheaper?

Re: Breakdown Cover
autoaid breakdown came out well in which? reviews , as did start rescue .
i joined for £59.99 , its a different system to others , i think the car is covered for any driver ( or perhaps the other way around !) .
i think breakdown rescue is essential even with a very reliable car , you may still get a puncture for example , and i cant change a wheel now .
i called them out a few months ago ( the notorious qashqai battery failure) , and they were fine .

Surely anyone who is contemplating paying well over £2,000 for a laptop can afford a more reliable car. See viewtopic.php?p=334752#p334752
Why not buy a fancy new BMW or Lexus to go with your Mac laptop? Then you won't have to worry about an extra £21 on your rescue cover.

Re: Breakdown Cover
I'm currently with Auto Aid at £60 a year but have decided to open a Nationwide Flex Plus account at £13 a month. You get breakdown cover, worldwide travel insurance and mobile phone cover all for £156 a year.

Can you get a fancy new BMW for £2,000, instead of a new laptop then?

good if you WANT travel and mobile insurance ...
very good if you get all your money back when you close the account - so you have all that for nothing?
is that right?

Re: Breakdown Cover
Well a joint account would be useful for us as we will both get all the benefits....although I really don't want another bank account. I don't necessarily want the mobile phone cover either but my wife had a phone problem a while back where the insurance would have been useful.
It's the worldwide travel insurance which is really attracting me and the car breakdown cover includes home start.
You don't have to pay anything into the account every month or need any direct debits, just pay £13 a month. It isn't for everyone but it is for me.

Best feature for me is that the breakdown cover applies across Europe, for my campervan.

Re: Breakdown Cover
Yes that's a good feature if you drive Europe....we usually hire a car.
Note:
It's another £65pa when you reach 70 making £221 in total and
It only covers trips up to 31 days. I heard of someone who extended to 90 days for an extra £108

I paid an extra £30 to extend to 48 days, for two people ages 71 and 65. Seems like a good price compared with other annual policies.

Yes we BMW drivers expect the highest standards. So far the three BMWs I have driven over the years have been fault free and only see a dealer every two years, but you are right, Which says standards are slipping a bit. Perhaps a Lexus? But from my experience not so nice to drive .

Although the amount Nationwide's travel insurers charge if you need to disclose any medical issues for the travel insurance is eye watering.

Re: Breakdown Cover
Nationwides insurers (UK Insurance) didn't charge me. But maybe you have more difficult 'non standard' issues.

Re: Breakdown Cover
Why buy cover separately?
We insure three cars on separate policies, they all come with Breakdown cover, a lot cheaper than a standalone.
One through Hagerty, one Adrian Flux, one John Lewis.

Re: Breakdown Cover
Because in the crazy world of car insurance sometimes it's cheaper to bundle the breakdown cover and some times it isn't.

Nope - One medication is free, anything more is chargeable even if a 'standard' issue.
