What vehicle would you drive to... in ?

Having driven around the USA in the 1980s in a Ford F250 pickup with a cabover camper on the back I would second the idea of a Toyota HiLux with a camper on the back. Would diesel not be the better option than petrol too?

I'd also go for something a bit older but fully serviced and overhauled rather than something new. It is best not to look too out of place in some localities.

Why? 300TDI, simple, auto, upgraded, and proven in use. Nicely shabby looking, won't draw undesirable attention from tealeaves.

Wouldn't be an obvious choice for a regular weekly trip between the Cotwolds and Lancs though!
