The integrated rear camera on our car has changed from standard image to fisheye for some unknown reason. We now get a curved picture including some of the number plate. We've contacted their help desk but despite promising to get back to us nothing has happened. Anyone any ideas how to rectify this problem?

First place I would look is the "vehicle settings" menu on the in-car screen thingy ("Info-tainment Centre" is just such an unnecessary phrase, methinks). Give it a day or two and if the dealers give you no reply then phone them up and tell them you intend to return the car for a full refund under the sale of goods act, that should wake them up :D If all else fails then RTFM may be your only recourse ;)

Always ask the stupid questions. You haven't somehow switched it into the 360 degree mode, that includes images from the two side cameras and squashes it all into the one screen? That would certainly scrunch it horizontally and make it fish-eye-y.

Second possibility, which has been known to happen on some cars. The lens (or lens cover) has fallen off the camera!

Do you have a towbar fitted? Has it activated 'towbar' view? Is the towbar properly retracted into its housing?

Not the right Volvo, but does this make sense? It seems to suggest that there are two toggle-able views. Love the shaky-hand video.

We've got a MY20 V90 CC, and I've just been to play with it.

I assume by fisheye you mean the 360 view that BJ mentions here, generated by stitching together shots from the 4 cameras?

When you turn on the ignition and select Reverse, you get the camera interface. If you select 360 option you get the overhead view and no obvious way to deselect the 360 option view menu.

At this point swipe up on the touchscreen (swiping from bottom to top) and you get the rear facing camera again, along with the menu interface with 360 option deselected.

Hope this works, apologies if this was not your issue.

cheers

Thank you for all your replies.
Cannot tell if lens cover has come off camera, there is no obvious sign. If the dealer ever gets back to us OH can enquire if there is any way to tell. (We've already had one of the ubiquitous questionaire's asking us "how did we do" I haven't replied yet as I'm tempted to be very rude

Car doesn't come equipped with 360 degree camera it's purely a rearview parking camera.
The camera is still functioning it's just that the view is distorted and whilst no problem when parking in usual spots wouldn't like to rely on it in tight spot.

Our Avensis one did this the other week - suddenly I could see the plate. The other day I noticed it was no longer doing it.

I suspect the camera is loose in the holder and slips when we shut the tailgate.

Result = had a call from dealer this morning, they're going to replace camera. Hopefully no more egg shaped pictures.
