Flying around the UK.

My two boys and I are planning to fly around the UK in a four-seater PA28 in 24 days time. This is our route...

Likewise. You'll be passing right over our house as you head south-west from the Cotswolds (or north-east toward them? It would be a help if you could tell us whether you're travelling clockwise or anti?) Either way, we'll be sure to put the tea on. :)

Just to confirm you shouldn't fly over my house as I haven't washed the windows

Lost opportunity. Can you please alter the flight plan to either spell a rude word or at least scribe out a penis and accessories please.

Technically it looks as if you are flying around Great Britain, no Northern Ireland. Why are you making that little loop over and around what looks like Oban?

I did suggest it during planning but there was some extra bureaucracy involved with which we couldn't be doing. C.

I don't want to spoil the party (it looks an enjoyable trip!), but I wonder if you ever worry about your greenhouse gas emissions?
A quick google and rough sums says your plane uses something of the order of twice as much fuel per mile as our Ford Fiesta (or a bit more?) - which actually doesn't seem too bad. Except that you can do a lot more miles in an hour, making it much easier to emit a lot of CO2. I may have my back-of-envelope sums wrong, but I reckon you emit something of the order of 100kg/hour, whereas our car produces maybe 10-15kg per hour.
On the other hand, that means your plane does about the same CO2/mile as our camper van, so I should not feel too smug. I do often feel guilty driving that! Though we cover very few miles with it annually.

there have been so few flights in the last 18 months or so that I doubt that this trip will do much harm.

None of us do much harm to the climate over our lifetimes. A transatlantic jumbo won't do much harm on a single trip. But the accumulation of lots of individual "not much harm" becomes a lot of harm globally.
It's tough to decide what is or is not advisable. But until each individual considers their own lifestyle and makes suitable changes, climate change will continue apace

What are the map dots? Airfields/beacons? Other?
You may be flying over my house, difficult to tell. I'm about 15 miles NNW of RAF Odiham (beware the Chinooks...)

But your fiesta will actually burn even more as you will be stuck on the M1 stop starting at 1mph for most of it. Maybe he can spot you a better route and offset some emissions

Looks like a circuit of the Isle of Mull.

Indeed, everything has an impact. I read somewhere[1] that the energy used by people making Climate Change related tangential posts on newsgroups is enough to power a city the size of Liverpool :)

We only need to stop doing 1 thing to save the planet - breeding. Anyone with 2 children is doing nothing to reduce emissions long term, more than that and you're a polluter in perpetuity. The population of the planet has more than doubled in my lifetime, That explains half the emissions increase since the 1960s.

Sorry.

I've been trying to work out which of my three should go, unfortunately Mrs DM and I can't agree.
