Gouged bumper and small scratch on edge of bodywork

#444220

Postby Clariman » September 21st, 2021, 6:09 pm

Someone very kindly drove into my wife's car in a multistorey car park this afternoon. It was on the rear corner on the driver's side. She was at the shops and there was no note left. Cheers.

There is a large scrape or gouge on the rear bumper and a small scratch on the adjacent bodywork.

Who is best placed to fix this kind of thing and roughly what costs? Need to check insurance excess. The car park attendant said he would check cctv but location within car park was not hopeful for good coverage.

Thanks
C

My suggestion would be a smart repairer who will generally deal with it at your home, though some have premises you can go to. This sort of damage is bread and butter to them and their prices tend to be far less than a fully equipped body shop, with their inevitable overheads necessary for the far bigger jobs they are best at.

The problem, of course, is that there are good and bad, as with most trades. Given the number of car park dings and similar which occur these days, it might be worth asking around for recommendations. Many who have cars on PCP deals and similar need work like this before returning their cars, to avoid penalties, so more than you might expect could have experience of this trade.

Good luck!

Edit to add. I had some similar work done about five years ago and it cost me low three figures. It was impossible to see where the damage had been; the job was perfect
