and if the Dacia Spring makes it to the UK that will be even cheaper. 17,000 Euros gets you the base model, but LHD only at the moment. No tech to speak of and minimal range, but if you are a technophobe and all you need is a city runaround then it could be the car for you.

Re: Cheapest New BEV on its way
If the Dacia's top speed is really 62mph as Fully Charged reported, its no use outside a city, Other sites quote 77mph, which would make it gutless, but not a motorway menace. Otherwise, it looked fine.

Not necessarily, if it has acceleration anything like other EVs.

It night be a bit iffy on a motorway but there are plenty of rural routes where even 60mph isn't safely achievable in any car. A 60mph top speed is more than adequate for my local runs here in rural(ish) Hertfordshire, but I need a bit more rear space than the Dacia Spring offers.

Re: Cheapest New BEV on its way
There are a couple of 0-100 kmh tests out there on Youtube, and they seem to agree at around 20 seconds. 0 to 80 kmh is a little over 12 seconds, but then it runs right out of legs.
Polish test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq-Oa4pUzlA
French test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLy5A2WBbJw
Autoevolucion (https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2021 ... 58612.html) takes the view that the seats are not right for longer-distance travel. Boot space is 290 litres, or 600 litres with the seats down. It says that's more than a Fiesta. I'd want to double-check that. But I don't think I'll be trading in my Toyota estate (530/1660 litres) any time soon.

and even cheaper, slower and with less range the Citroen Ami will cost around £6000. The key quote is "Citroen says it's not a car, but a quadricycle". I'd say it's more like a 2 seat mobility scooter.

Reviewed on last week's Fifth Gear Recharged programme. Nearly tipped over despite snail like top speed, and lowest score I've seen them give anything.
Shame. As a quirky city car it seems to have quite a lot going for it.

Re: Cheapest New BEV on its way
Standing quarter mile drag race, against the Renault Twizy and the G-Wiz and some other new-fangled thing which costs twelve thousand quid. The action starts at four minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrDXIj0Mj00
These sorts of cars are already well known in France, because they're what you're allowed to drive if you've been banned for drink-driving. Or if you're fourteen, of course. But with a top speed of barely 25 mph, I don't think I'd have been seen dead in one. Even if it did have a top of the range sound system.....

I suspect the crash test ratings of these 'cars' is such that that is your most likely state, especially when a 25mph car is hit by a 25mph lorry

Very impressed that they all had sufficient range to complete the course

It is a voiture sans permis ,so there are limits on which roads you can use it. No périphérique , but I imagine still the Arc de Triomphe roundabout.

OTOH a 1 star NCAP might be a deal breaker for a lot of people.
Somehow it's still better than the latest rating for the Renault Zoe.
