Wouldn't dream of not shopping around now, or making a point of filling up when at the supermarket.

just because someone else might be paying for it doesn't matter

Since UK Gov got wise to the company car perk and taxed it to the hilt, that option is no longer so popular

Not sure what looking after a car has got to do with the price of fuel.

badly phrased by me
I wouldn't buy more expensive fuel (or anything in fact) just because someone else was paying for it ;)

Given 54% of the pump price of petrol is tax*, the State could reduce petrol prices by over half at the stroke of a pen.
People frothing about 'profiteering oil companies' need to see who is really profiteering here!

Fuel duty is 57.95p per litre alone - and then VAT.
They even put VAT on the fuel duty - They tax the tax!

I got a BEV as a bit of an experiment, I've thought of it as a nice toy but maybe it is becoming cost effective.

What, with the price of electricity tumbling, you mean?

Passed my local Tesco Express yesterday. Petrol was £1.72p and diesel £1.79p per litre.

I'm off on a 250 mile round trip in an hour using the M3, M25 and M11, I will be interested to see what the motorway prices are...what's the betting a see diesel at more than £2 per litre?

Apparently near me the highest to lowest difference is 13p per litre. https://www.petrolprices.com/

Another factor to consider in the cost of fuel is that it is bought with taxed income so at £1.55p , gross income would be £1.93p before the 20% deduction and £2.58 gross for the 40% rate.

I did a 250 mile round trip on Thursday, and the total cost of fuel for the journey - nothing, zero, zip.

The nice people at a retail park I popped into on the way had half a dozen chargers that that were delivering free electricity whilst I browsed the stores to choose what to buy online.

And then on the way back the nice people at the leisure complex where I stopped to see a film had around 20 chargers delivering free electricity, so the car was full when I left home and virtually full when I got back.

A more pleasant experience than paying the £1.65 for petrol or £1.90 for diesel that my nearest petrol station was charging today

Nice. So knock off the £18k my Avensis diesel estate cost new and at 50 mpg how far would I have to drive to recoup the cost of your BEV?

Assuming I could get a large BEV Estate in the first place.

The main reason we got an ID3 was that we wanted to move from Ford (due to poor local service) and go to VW. We got a great deal for our 3 year old Ford Kuga and the ID3 was the only new car they had on imminent delivery, so we took it on a really good PCP deal.

I am no eco warrior, but the BEV has some good points, apart from battery range anxiety. As I said it is an experiment to see if we can live with a BEV (it's interesting). I haven't done the sums to see how petrol vs electricity works out, certainly not with new tariffs.

Isn't a car all about personal choice, how does your above logic work out for folkies who buy a brand new £150K petrol vogue range rover ?

Anyway, BEV/ICE, Electricity/Gas is all up in the air, I personally don't have a clue what is going to happen, neither I think, do .Gov.

The cost of the lease of my BEV was the same as leasing an equivalent ICE when I took it out a year ago.
