What's even stranger is the three linked stories to similar thefts from cars going back quite a few years!

Not a new phenomenom. In the 1980s the Recaro Seats and wheels would regularly vanish from Ford RS2000s and the like in the days before locking wheel nuts. I've also seen someone staring at a Ducati in Silverstone car park with the brake calipers missing.
