We went to a funeral a few days ago. We parked near to grave in a muddy cr park that was being built.
When we got home I notice that both car mats were covered in thick mud. I was going to clean them when I had an idea. i just laid them out on the drive and let the rain wash them. Both are now drying off in the garage perfectly clean.
I wonder how many hours I've spent in the past scrubbing them clean

Why stop at car mats. You could extend that to other things I suppose. Clothes, shoes, dishes

This reminds me of a friend who was new to owning a few hens. He spent hours trying to chase (drive*) them back into their shed for the night. All he needed was a bucket of meal for them to follow.

I remember it being quite common with rugs when I was a kid possibly as everyone smoked
hang it up
give it a bash with the cane carpet beater (us weans would join in)
let it get rained on
and hopefully dry quickly enough that you can put it back in before the next downpour

It can work fairly well with dishes. Leave them out in the rain overnight and, bingo, clean in the morning.
Checking that no animal used them for a toilet of course.

Reminds me of some chap I heard about who was bragging online about how he'd found an easier way to wash his car. He just squirted Fairy Liquid all over it and left it out in the road so that the rain could finish the job.
It didn't end well. Total resprays can be expensive.

Quite. You'd be surprised what comes round your garden in the night, looking for traces of food and other edibles. Dogs. Foxes. Rats. Slugs....

Reminds me of camping in Snowdonia when I was a student. One of our party left the frying pan outside the tent, with fat in it from the evening's sausages, ready for bacon in the morning. When we awoke, there was the perfect imprint of sheep's teethmarks in the fat.
Of course, we just cut that bit out.
