VED - pay by card or DD?

The VED for a couple of our vehicles expires 31 march.

I just went to renew, and noticed if I waited until 1 April I'd be paying more. I was also given the option of switching to Direct Debit.

I suspect I know the answer, but if I did renew by DD would I be charged the current rate, or the increased rate due on 1st April?

What I'm really struggling to find is a full list of the new rates, apart from snippets in magazines about changes to post 2017 cars which doesn't apply to us.

I pay by DD, some time around mid-month, and I noticed the other day that my payment had gone up from £14.43 to £15.75. That's £1.32 more, or £15.84 a year. Didn't seem worth making a fuss about really. ;)

Should have added: A further breakdown of costs by method of payment at https://www.gocompare.com/car-insurance/guide/car-tax (third table down). In my case, DD costs £9 a year more than a single payment up front.

No info at all on your pre-2000 cars, as far as I can ascertain. :(

I pay for our cars by DD, but not in instalments. £180 for the last one this month, taken about the 5th.
