They arrived today on what is probably the hottest day of the year and required planting in the tubs immediately

Perfect timing, but at least I've lost a few pounds :)

That's different.

Most bare-rooted plants can be heeled in for a few days at least https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/heeling-in-plants.htm
