What is this plant pls?
It was a summer-time gift in a pot that, after a couple of months, I planted outside.
It initially died back but then blossomed forth throughout the winter and is still going, and shrugs off the frosty mornings and sleet. It is currently around 15cm high.

Any ideas what it is pls?

I'd say it's a Begonia ... but as to which one, there are zillions, and they're very varied too.

Cyclamen persicum, usually sold as a house plant.
https://www.hillier.co.uk/garden-and-ho ... -cyclamen/Growers have developed many indoor cyclamen hybrids for us to enjoy in a range of shades and shapes, from ruffled petals to heart-shaped leaves. These are all forms of Cyclamen persicum, a Mediterranean-origin species. Smaller versions of Cyclamen persicum do flower outdoors – frequently sold as ‘mini cyclamen’ – as do hardy Cyclamen coum varieties.

Re: What is this plant pls?
Thanks to all. Cyclamen it is.
mc2fool's link shows two varieties - repandum and hederifolium (looks like same photo for both!) that display flowers very similar to mine when in full bloom.
Surprised how hardy they are, and - like the begonias I planted last year - a good choice for my narrow sun-facing border.

I too guessed cyclamen, and I no NUFFERN about this stuff!
I've an idea they are very early flowering, and can be persuaded to flower just in time for Christmas.
Probbly rubbish!

Re: What is this plant pls?
While cyclamen are often sold as house plants, many are happy in the garden, needing shade. They die back to a mound over summer, with leaves returning in the autumn, and they flower then into the winter. Good to plant in the shade cast by shrubs.

I have only just seen this thread. My impression is that it is only in recent years that they have been sold as house plants. Used to see them quite often towards the front of borders for late Autumn flowering, just when everything else is dying down. In fact I know of a few locations where that is exactly the case.

There are three main varieties of Cyclamen being sold: Cyclamen Hederifolium, Cyclamen Coum and Cyclamen Persicum.
The first two are hardy, with hederifolium flowering in the autumn and coum in the spring. Persicum is not hardy and is sold as a houseplant.

Thanks very much. Not a plant I have ever known much about but it makes for a colourful addition to a border. It must be the Hederifolium that I see most of.
