What is this plant?
Self seeded into our garden and we left it while it was just a green stem, but now it has sprouted green/brown bits on the top.
Is it actually wheat or something?

Close, looks like a Millet to me. Compare with this photo...

Do you feed the birds? If so, looks like one of them dropped a bit of their lunch

I think that you're right with that, though not that particular one.
We do feed the birds, but not with millet. But there are at least 2 adjoining gardens with bird feeders, so who knows?
Cheers

It is a Sorghum. There are about 25 species. Yours could be Sorghum bicolor? Here it is at Kew - a bit healthier than yours!

Re: What is this plant?
Rather than start a new thread, I've another "What is this plant?" question.
This is a low level plant of which I have masses in my garden. It spreads like wildfire but never seems to flower or do anything interesting, unless I missed it. DAK what it is please?
This a section snipped off and photographed against a white painted wall to hopefully make it easier to see, with a hand in the pic for scale.
Many thanks if anyone knows what it is, and/or knows if there is an easy way to get rid of it or at least slow it up!

The leaves are giving off privet vibes
- especially if those berries turn black
If it is then you can probably treat it as you would laurel i.e. try everything known to man, give up and move house
- or take up topiary

Thanks sd. This is the conclusion I'm coming to too, especially as there is a large hedge about 50 yds long nearby, with on reflection, similar leaves. I originally dismissed privet as my grandparents had well-kept privet hedges which I used to cut as a child, and the leaves were much smaller and paler in colour than these.
Anyway, knowing what it is and its characteristics is helpful. Looks like I need to just buy a petrol strimmer....

Using "Google Lens" to take a photo of your photo....common privet is what Lens suggests.
