Evening all.
Mrs OLTB would like a mini cherry tree for the very sunny corner of our back garden. The mature height should be between 8-10 feet with pink blossom.
Does anyone have suggestions for a cherry tree (breed?) that approximately fits the above bill?
Thanks again, cheers, OLTB.

Re: Cherry tree wanted
'Flowering Cherry Trees for Small Gardens', as a place to start, maybe:
https://www.rhs.org.uk/garden-inspirati ... ll-gardens
They're excellent for honey bees, providing both pollen and nectar at a time that supports colony build-up in the Spring. The bees will love you for it.

Re: Cherry tree wanted
I was very disappointed to lose a very nice cherry last year, which was just in it’s second year of cropping, to bark beetle.
Have replaced it with a magnolia now.

Magnolias are beautiful in a frost free spring but we have had few of these in recent years, at least in my part of Scotland.
I wish you well.

Re: Cherry tree wanted
If you have any idea of eating the cherries from the tree you must consider some form of netting to keep the birds off. They will strip the tree before you think the cherries are ripe.
I planted 6 dwarf cherries last year, great show of blossom this year but the dry weather has done for the crop. I didn't really expect much to be honest, it will take a while to develop enough of a root system to support the crop to maturity. I've watered as much as I can but it was obviously not enough.
The trees are putting on good growth so they are settling in nicely.
Only one plum tree doesn't appear to have survived the winter. I always considered plums to be indestructable and cherries a bit sensitive.
Black fly seems to be a prblem on the cherries. I'm going to spray them with soap over the weekend.

Re: Cherry tree wanted
Thank you all for your suggestions and advice - we have opted for the Stella Gisela tree and now just have to find where we can source one from.
Cheers, OLTB.

Re: Cherry tree wanted
I usually use Orange Pippin Trees.
https://www.orangepippintrees.co.uk/cherry-trees/stella
They aren't cheap but they are quality.
I've no contact with them other than a satisfied customer. I like the fact they have a lot of different rootstocks.
