First Yorkshire swallow
Saw my first one on Sunday in a field by a stream. One of my favourite birds, acrobatic low-flyer and not overly bothered by humans. Only saw one, which of course does not make a summer.

Re: First Yorkshire swallow
There were a couple of flocks (the formations are a bit loose to be flocks really) of about 30 each at Rutland water yesterday. We used to see them in some numbers over our house, but not for the last few years.

Re: First Yorkshire swallow
We've had a pair in our barn for a couple of weeks now (East Sussex).
But they were later than normal and so far just the one pair - normally have two or three pairs nesting. Hopefully the others are on their way.

Re: First Yorkshire swallow
One solitary swallow so far in west Wiltshire, about ten days ago. And that was never seen again, so presumably it was on its way to Rutland Water?
By now we'd normally be seeing dozens of them. I'm holding my breath in hope that they haven't all decided to stay in France this summer. I could hardly blame them if they did.
Frostiest April since 1922, they say. And colder than March, according to some. Sheesh.

We had a woodpecker in the back garden about 2 weeks ago clearly looking for a tree to build a nest in

Re: First Yorkshire swallow
Saw my first in Sussex this year on Sunday May 1st. One day earlier than last year, which surprised me given the prevailing North Easterlies we have experienced in recent weeks. It's also a week earlier than 2019, 5 days before 2018 and 10 days before 2017. Trend here seems to be for them to arrive earlier the before.
