Self seeded into our garden and we left it while it was just a green stem, but now it has sprouted green/brown bits on the top.
Is it actually wheat or something?

Do you feed the birds? If so, looks like one of them dropped a bit of their lunch

If it is then you can probably treat it as you would laurel i.e. try everything known to man, give up and move house
