White collared doves

Postby Paupertas » August 2nd, 2022, 9:42 am

These have been in and around our garden for a number of years.

We have a bird feeded in the back garden that they dominate and they are now nesting in the trees in the front garden. They seem extremely wary birds, usually fly off when we are outside.

They seem a bit aggresive to other birds using their size to intimidate. However, at one time I counted 8 or 10 of the doves in the trees at the bottom of the garden and they seemed quite happy in each others company.

This had me think - do they recognise and accept their own species or is something else going on?
